Farewell 2009

One more year is over. I am wiser by 365 days more. The year 2009 has been the worst ever in my life, though I would love to say that it had its own silver lining in more than one ways.

On the last day of the year, I am recalling all the good and bad that had happened in the last year. My mother’s sickness (August) was one of the lowest points of the year 09. Then I broke my toe (September) and lost my one and only aunty (Meera Mahi). Apart from that the year had seen me getting fevers/flue/infections time and again. Oh what a relief it’s over now.

On a positive note, I have grown wiser, understood the importance of family and realized where to put my foot down and say NO and actually mean it. In the departing year I have also understood who my real friends are and who are not. I will treasure the former all my life.

Someone has rightfully said that we do need the bad things in life too to understand the value of the good ones. Time heals everything. Remembering the quote an uncle had on his visiting card, “Arey mann shant rah, ye bhi guzar jayega”. Yes it did. I thank God for everything.

Aren't we glad to have each other GIRLS!

When I was a little girl,
I used to believe in the concept of one best friend.
Then I started to become a woman,
And then I found out that if you allow your heart to open up,
God would show you the best in many friends.


One friend is needed when you're going through things with your spouse…..
Another friend is needed when you're going through things with your mom and dad...
Another will sit beside you in the bleachers as you delight in your children and their activities. Another when you want to shop, share, heal, hurt, joke, or just be.
One friend will say, 'Let's have a meal together,
'Another , 'Let's party together,'..
Another , 'Let's walk away together.'


One friend will meet your spiritual need,
Another your shoe fetish,..
Another your love for clothes,
Another will be with you in your season of confusion,..
Another will be your clarifier,
Another the wind beneath your wings…


But whatever their assignment in your life,
On whatever the occasion,
On whatever the day,
Or wherever you need them to meet you with their gym shoes on and hair pulled back,
Or to hold you back from making a complete fool of yourself .
Those are your best friends.


It may all be wrapped up in one woman, But for many, it's wrapped up in several...
One from 7th grade,
One from high school,
Several from the college years,
A couple from old jobs,
On some days your mother,
On some days your neighbor,
On others, your sisters,
And on some days, your daughters.

The Subjective Value of Money

This Durga Puja, I gave my maid an additional one month's salary to enjoy her Puja. I felt good. While browsing the Internet, I came across this video and I felt great about it. It is not that I have never did any charity before, I just never thought like this video made me think. Watch:

What is so special about September 9, 2009?

My straight answer to this question would be "I don't know". But I am excited about this day simply because, such combinations of numbers rarely happen. I feel lucky to witness this date. Hence I have lots of plan for this day, i.e., today, September 9, 2009.

After seeing my mother on the hospital bed, I have decided many things for myself. I think this day would be the right day to start on those to dos. Sharing some here:

1. I have realized that modern sedentary living is taking a toll on our health. Though we all know that "health is the real wealth", most of us ignore it big time. I am not going to ignore my health anymore. I am including a few more yoga sessions and going to follow a healthy diet hereon.
2. For work or negligence, I have been out of touch with a lot of family members. I have lost my aunt this year and it came as a huge blow to me. I loved her, but I never showed it to her and never took any effort to go and meet her. I took her for granted. I miss her and my guilt is killing me. I will not ignore anyone like that ever.
3. Starting today, I promise to myself that I will moisturize and use night cream. Promise.
4. There are more to my plans. But just want to get started with it. Wish me luck.
   

Now for the significances:

Well, according to Chinese belief, number 9 is a very auspicious number. I am a number 3 person myself. Hence, according to Vedic numerology, 9 should be a lucky number for me as well. Some of the other significances of this day are:

• This is the 252nd day of the year, 252 adds to 9, and 09-09-09 = 27, 2+7=9.

• 09-09-09 is also the last of the single-digits dates for quite a while - 92 years to be precise.

• It is also the upside-down number of "the beast" - Satan = 666, of course.

• The day falls on a Wednesday and both Wednesday & September have 9 letters.

• On September 9, 2009, after a nearly 22-year wait, digitally re-mastered versions of all of the Beatles studio albums will be released
